"Light" is more than a workshop—it's an immersive experience designed to change how you approach and understand light. Over two days, we'll explore not only how to light, but why. You'll go beyond technical setups and gain insight into the art and philosophy of lighting, learning from natural sources and cinematic techniques. This workshop is crafted for part-time pros, new photographers, and serious amateurs who want to master light in a way that feels authentic, impactful, and intuitive.

No Trace Lighting
Mastering the Art of Invisible Light

In this workshop, you’ll learn the concept of "No Trace Lighting"—a technique inspired by the principles of "no trace camping," where the goal is to leave no visible mark on the natural world. In lighting, this approach translates into using light in a way that’s nearly undetectable, amplifying what's naturally there instead of overpowering it. Rather than manipulating a scene with excessive lights, No Trace Lighting teaches you to push light subtly, shaping it in ways that feel organic, gentle, and true to the environment.

What You'll Learn:

  • Subtlety in Lighting: Learn techniques to avoid over-lighting, ensuring your images feel genuine and authentic.

  • Amplifying Existing Light: Discover how to work with natural light sources and enhance them to guide your subject without overwhelming the scene.

  • Recreate Natural Light: Understand the fundamentals of how light behaves naturally and how to recreate this using tools like bounce, diffusion, and negative fill.

  • Guiding Mood and Story with Light: Every shot holds a story; we’ll explore how subtle lighting can enhance storytelling without distracting from it.

This isn’t just about learning setups—it’s about developing an intuitive approach to light, one that respects the scene, highlights the subject, and ultimately leaves no trace.

What else you’ll learn

  • Lighting Naturally with Artificial Light – Bringing a natural look to studio setups.

  • Natural Light vs Continuous Light vs Strobe Light – Choosing the right tool for your vision.

  • Lighting for Color/Skin Tones – Techniques for accurate, vibrant color.

  • Lighting for Mood – Crafting the feel of your image through intentional light design.

  • Using Bounce, Diffusion, and Negative Fill – Essential tools for shaping light.

  • Light and Composition – Directing the viewer’s eye with light.

Through hands-on practice, group discussions, and real-time problem-solving, you'll walk away with the confidence and skill to master any lighting environment. Join us in November and discover how to make light a true collaborator in your creative process.
